The Gals

Welcome to our blog!

We are three young women embarking on a cross Canada cycling trip! We will be starting May 5th from Victoria, B.C, making our way

East to St John’s, Newfoundland, spanning over >7000km. We are planning to stay mostly in campsites, but will indulge now and then in a roof over our heads (be it a hotel/motel/holiday inn, friends/family, or couchsurfing/warm showers). We will be carrying all our gear on our bikes, including tents and camping equipment.

This is by faaaar our biggest cycling adventure yet, and, after a LOT of planning and practice, we are so excited to get rolling!

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments, and please check out our fundraising pages along the side bar!

Thank you!

Day 60: (July 3) Rossport to Marathon 121.7km

We had a longer day today as we had a person we were planning to stay with in Marathon.
We are always hungry. We try and eat breakfast as the very last part of our morning routine (after getting dressed and packing up), so that we can cover a bit more ground on the road before needing to stop and eat again. Today we had to stop for second breakfast in Schreiber.
As will be the norm for many days, we continued on highway 17, facing challenging climbs, but incredible breathtaking views of Lake Superior.
When we arrived in Marathon, it was 9PM. We had a contact that a friend had stayed with when she cycled through Marathon, named Boyd. All we had was his address, and he had no idea we would be coming to his house. We arrived outside of his house and saw him through the window watching TV. We took a chance to ring his doorbell and say hello, and he took us in, fed us, gave a bed to sleep in and treated us like old friends. It is times like these that are very special because there are no words for the kindness that we have been shown  by people like Boyd.
